A busy time for us all. Tuesday was a lovely day to be working in the cemetery just taking gardening jobs at a steady pace. lots of weeding a little planting and lots of watering. Well done to the team.
Thursday was a beautiful morning. The children came from Zetland School testing out our very first tree trail. They came through the arch entrance of the old section bright and cheerful looking forward to working with us in the cemetery.
A big thank you to their teacher and helpers who came to assist. Thank you also to Friends Dawn, Barbara, Dot, Carole and Soo.
This was just the tip of the iceberg as many hours had gone into the preparation, learning about trees and identifying them and putting on plaques with the English and Latin names. the original team need to be thanked John, Kay, Wendy, Ged, Dot and Holly form wild life organization who has left the service now. So good it worked out well and we know this as one of the children said "I am so glad I came today". A cemetery can be seen as a peaceful classroom and it is a natural way to understand the life cycle and grief process. With hugging trees, bark rubbing and an understanding how the leaves are processed and even the dead trees help to provide homes and hiding places for small creatures. There was a look back to the Zetland school in ages past and the people of Redcar who built the community.
The week is not over Saturday morning will see Paul and Dot meeting the Pay Back scheme men who are helping to clear the leaf keep so a path can be laid. thanks to them. Sunday will see Fiona, Louise and Dot walking the cemetery to see the jobs that need focusing on this week.
Soo has had her sewing machine out again as she sold all her 50p fold away bags. thanks to Hazel Head Gardener of the Walled Garden who helped us with a table at 'Make Do and Mend' and the 'Festival of Thrift' events thank you. This is a lovely time to enjoy the garden now, how beautiful it is. Don't miss out the colours they are stunning.
We are looking for new members to help us with our fundraising events. Please get in touch if you can help.l
